Black History month is a time to recognize the achievements, hardships and history of African Americans. This month long celebration gives Americans the opportunity to become educated and truly reflect on the milestones and successes of all things black. Black History is America's History and deserves everyday recognition. For generations, African Americans have strengthened our country by urging reforms and breaking down barriers. We are able to see the transformation of America through those who have risen above injustice and tirelessly fought for equality. African Americans share a proud legacy of courage, dedication and innovative vision that has significantly contributed to our nation's success and prosperity. African Americans have played a large part in developing some of the world's most widely used inventions, literature, fashion trends, music genres etc. So in layman's terms.. we are the shit.
Black History Month is bittersweet because while we are in a celebratory mood, we are also reminded that we still have a long way to go. We have progressed to a place that was once just a dream, hope and wish of our ancestors. We have a lot of work to be done... I don't think our work will ever be done, but our continuous strides to make a difference and desire to constantly elevate will keep us above water. Black people are truly one - of- kind and we have an unmatched and unique ability to produce leaders, foster change and set the standard. May you celebrate today, tomorrow, and everyday thereafter. Happy Black History Month!
